CGE Energy Achieves 90% Lighting Energy Savings for Metro Detroit’s Avis Ford with Cree LED Lighting
Posted on in NewsCGE Energy (MKBY. MKBY:OTCPink) recently completed a Cree® LED lighting project at Avis Ford, a nationally ranked automotive dealership in Southfield, Michigan. This Cree® LED Lighting upgrade is on track to save Avis Ford over $440,000 in energy and maintenance costs over the next 10 years.
Avis Ford’s heavy involvement in the community and its genuine customer service have made the dealership branded as “the dealership with the heart”. Proud to be the nation’s leading single-point African American owned dealership, Avis Ford has received the Ford President’s Award nine times in recognition of their sales and service excellence. For the past 60 years, Avis Ford has been the go-to place for new and pre-owned Ford vehicles as well as auto service and collision needs.
As an engineer by trade, Avis Ford owner Mark Douglas understood the advantages of LED lighting. “Energy savings were the driving force for the lighting upgrade. The choice for using LED technology was straightforward. The only question was when.” The perfect time came prior to the utility’s annual peak kW demand being established and before the daylight hours became shorter in the fall. They looked to CGE Energy to help with this cause by improving their dealership’s parking lot lighting with energy efficient Cree® LED lighting.
The project was immediately cash flow positive and had a return on investment of 2.5 years. Securing a $25,000 energy rebate and utilizing low-interest financing from one of CGE Energy’s financing partners, Curtis Funding Group, also made not waiting to install the project an easy decision.
After optimizing a lighting layout, CGE Energy upgraded Avis Ford’s previous metal halide pole fixtures to energy efficient Cree® OSQ™ Series Area luminaires and wall mounted fixtures to Cree® XSPW™ LED Wall Mount luminaires. Douglas and his team were impressed by Cree®’s Multi-Level controls, which allow the lighting fixtures to dim when there is no activity, achieving additional energy savings– totaling a substantial 90% reduction in lighting energy consumption.
“I am very happy with the results. The install was smooth and easy and the lighting looks great at night,” said Douglas. With true-to-life color rendering, the Cree® fixtures put light exactly where designed. “Our neighbors really appreciate it too,” Douglas said referring to nearby residents not having to worry about excess light spilling outside of the dealership’s property.
Avis Ford also saw the benefit of being part of CGE Energy’s R.A.M.P™ (Review, Analyze, Modify, and Protect) Lighting Maintenance program. R.A.M.P™ is a worry-free lighting maintenance service that will keep the Avis Ford’s parking lot and interior showroom looking their best throughout the lifetime of the lighting. “CGE has been very responsive and are there making repairs within a day or two,” concluded Douglas.
