Vic Canever Chevrolet Sees Huge Energy Savings with CGE Energy and CREE LED Lighting
Posted on in NewsBrighton, MI— CGE Energy (CGE, currently trading as MKBY:OTCPink) has proved to be an expert in making the auto dealership sector more energy efficient—successfully converting nearly a dozen car lots in Southeast Michigan in the last year from aging metal halide and high pressure sodium fixtures to energy-efficient Cree® LED lighting.
With the “gas and glass” lighting technologies fading into antiquity and the LED rising rapidly to take its place, some might think that major lighting overhauls are simply cosmetic changes that are undertaken for aesthetic purposes, with the ancillary benefit of saving a little money. But for many, the energy savings that they realize when switching over to LED is not just an “added benefit.” It can often be the motivating factor behind the decision to switch.
Take Vic Canever Chevrolet of Fenton for example. The Fenton, Michigan dealership has been family-owned and operated since 1969, spanning three generations of Canevers. They were interested in seeing how a changeover to Cree LED lighting could benefit their business for future generations.
After a thorough survey of their existing lighting fixtures and electrical setup, the CGE Energy team managed to reduce the number of fixtures from 89 to 66, seeing an 85% reduction in lighting energy use which amounts to $2,734 a month in savings. To top it all off, CGE Energy was able to help the Fenton dealership secure a $27,000 rebate from Consumers Energy. Vic Canever Chevrolet dealer now stands to save $376,000 in utilities over the next 10 years.
